The Seizure Safe Schools Act mandates that every public, charter, and private school in Arkansas ensure at least two employees per school are trained to recognize seizure symptoms and administer seizure rescue medication or use vagus nerve stimulator magnets. By the 2024-2025 school year, schools must implement these requirements, and a school nurse can count as one of the two required trained employees. All schools must also provide biennial training on seizure recognition and first aid for relevant personnel. Parents or guardians of students with seizure disorders must provide written authorization, medical instructions, and the prescribed medication to the school, while collaborating on a formalized 'seizure action plan.' The bill grants civil liability immunity and protection from disciplinary action to employees acting in compliance with these provisions. Additionally, schools are required to develop age-appropriate seizure education programs based on guidelines from the Epilepsy Foundation of America.
