Senate Bill 547 allows a property owner whose contiguous land—not exceeding 100 acres—is located within more than one municipality to select the development regulations of one of those municipalities to govern their entire project. To utilize this option, the owner must provide written notice to the governing bodies of all involved municipalities and to property owners located within 500 feet of the subject property. The chosen municipality must then adopt a resolution identifying the project, the property, and the requested permits to officially apply its regulations. Once the choice is made and the resolution is adopted, the project is governed by the selected municipality's development, building, and safety codes. The bill prohibits the inclusion of additional property from other municipalities to the project once the process has been initiated. This legislation aims to simplify the permitting process for developments spanning municipal boundaries.
