House Bill 1055 mandates that the State and Public School Life and Health Insurance Program provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other dementia-related conditions. Starting January 1, 2026, health plans must cover diagnostic testing and medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration intended to slow the progression of these diseases. The bill stipulates that these medical decisions must be made by licensed physicians based on evidence-based guidelines. Furthermore, the bill explicitly prohibits the use of step therapy protocols for these treatments. The State Board of Finance is authorized to promulgate rules to implement these requirements.
